The 60th District is an important district to represent. Emporia is a thriving community with a rich heritage.
Emporia is diverse and dynamic.
The presence of Emporia State University, Flint Hills Technical College, an outstanding school district, The
National Teachers Hall of Fame, and active Christian schools make Emporia the "Education Capital" of Kansas.
Emporia is located in the center of the eastern Kansas triangle of growth and development. Agriculture and
"value added" businesses anchor Emporia's industrial base, and a wide variety of other large and small
employers comprise our solid economy.
In the last few years, Emporians have said "yes" to progress, to quality education, and to quality of life. They
have voted in the polling place and with their pocket books to support projects including a school bond issue,
a new courthouse, a new aquatic center, and downtown revitalization including the Granada Theater and a
new arts center. Additional exciting projects are being contemplated.
These realities and history define Emporia as a place with a positive image, and a place with vitality, making
Emporia a pleasure to represent.
